Gut-Mind Connection

Human beings are super-organisms. The diet we consume shapes the gut microbiodata. Gut microbiodata plays a crucial role in understanding the mind connection and sometimes mental and neurological disorders.

The modern diets have transformed our genes. Researches indicate that gut-brain connection. Brain communicates via microbiodata-gut-brain axis. This influences the mental processes including mental illnesses and neurological disorders.

The microdata-gut-brain axis (GBA) is composed of nervous pathways, endocrine pathways, and immune pathways. As per a study, there is strong evidence which suggests that gut microbiota has an important function in bidirectional interactions between the gut and the nervous system. It interacts with the central nervous system by regulating brain chemistry and influencing neuro-endocrine systems associated with stress response, anxiety and memory function.”

Remembering RBG

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was born on March 15, 1933. She became the court’s second female justice as well as the first Jewish female justice in the U. S. Supreme Court. Not only that, she was the first tenured professor at Columbia University.

Martin her husband once said: “My wife doesn’t give me any advice about cooking and I don’t give her any advice about the law.”

While she was commendable in her work, she is best known for presenting her strong voice in favor of gender equality.

Here are some of her most cherished quotes:

“Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time.”

“Reacting in anger or annoyance will not advance one’s ability to persuade.”

“I’m a very strong believer in listening and learning from others.”

“Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.”

“I would like to be remembered as someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability.”

There is a documentary about RBG on Netflix which is amazing!

Believe in good on some days…

There are many things that can make us feel the world is a horrible place to be with full of mean people but so less times that makes us feel that it’s otherwise.

I have always felt that there is something about someone who will just rub you off the sadness. They could be anything or anyone – your pet dog, your garden blooms or even the sunshine on your window.

While it is easy to believe if something is not in sync, you keep looking at what does. It is easier said than done! I hear you. But, I would implore you to still on some days believe in the good. Believe that there is hope in the morning sun, there is calmness in the evening wind and there is warmth in your coffee sip.

Just don’t lose it. Let someone touch you with a healing hand and you touch other with a cosy one. Let someone hug you like an old friend and you hug back like a lover. Just believe not on all days but some days – where you feel that someone was kind to you and offered you a shoulder for you to rest on. Let on other days walk along with ease just like your pet would to hold the space and uplift another. 🌷

Friedrich Nietzsche was an extraordinary German philosopher who became one of the most influential of all modern thinkers.

His work is brilliant in all aspects. I personally find solace in his writings which are so profound. Here are some of my favorite quotes by Nietzsche.

1. Without music, life would be a mistake.

2. The advantage of a bad memory is that one enjoys several times the same good things for the first time.

3. The higher we soar the smaller we appear to those who cannot fly.

4. Invisible threads are the strongest ties.

5. Amor Fati – “Love Your Fate”, which is in fact your life.

Appreciating Womanhood

Today is celebrated worldwide as International Women’s Day. Today is the day to appreciate each and every women who made history and who are yet to make one.

Globally on March 8 commemorate the cultural, political, scientific and socioeconomic achievements of women. A day dedicated to the women in our society.

History of International Women’s Day — It was first observed in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on March 19, 1911. But what marked March 8 is due to a most consequential International Women’s Day protest which took place in Russia on March 8, 1917. Women in large numbers took to the streets of the capital, Petrograd i.e. Petersburg now in order to demand the end of food shortage and World War I.

This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias 🙅‍♀️ – breaking the biases that exists in the society and promoting equality. Breaking the discrimination at work, at home or in society.

Not only bringing changes in the ideologies but into practice. Fostering a world 🌍 that treats no gender any different and no gender any weaker. Breaking the shackles of stereotypes and moving beyond.

I am sharing my favorite poem by Kamla Bhasin on the resilience of women. (Translated from Hindi to English by Sunita Bhadauria).

We, women, are like roots

and we have roots of our own too

We stand tall on these roots

And because of them, we have fought and silently marched ahead

They cut us from above

We expand and spread from below.

We will continue to connect and unite with roots close to us

and will shake the foundations and structures of their oppression.

And I’ll end with saying – Let’s not just #BreakTheBias but rise above in love and togetherness.
